Leek Show cancelled due to coronavirus

Leek & District Show has been cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic.

The Leek & District Show, Staffordshire Moorlands premier agriculture event for more than half a century, has taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 show due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This comes after the show announced it would be discontinued but was then later saved.

Acting show chairman, Rachel Torr said: “In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, and following the recent updates from the UK Government, it is with great sadness that the newly formed Leek & District Show committee has announced the cancellation of the 2020 show that had been planned to take place on 25 July.

“We have been continuously monitoring the situation and we’ve left this very difficult decision for as long as we could, in the hope that the show might have been possible to host again. However, due to the latest Government guidance and restrictions on large events, it’s not possible at this time to host a safe event for all those involved.

“Our main priority is to protect the health and safety of our visitors, committee members, exhibitors and all those involved in preparing and delivering the show, which means that this is the safest and right decision to make. We would like to thank our show committee for all their hard work in the preparations for this year’s show, along with our members and sponsors who have continued to support us in the past and present.

“We understand this decision will be disappointing but the newly formed committee hopes members of the public understand our decision, we would like to wish everyone well and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back next year on 31 July 2021.”
