Churnet Valley railway urges people not to trespass on the railways

The Churnet Valley railway is reminding people not to trespass on the railway line despite the railway being closed to passenger traffic They have released a statement online saying that inspection and engineering trains are still operating but are not timetabled as they highlight the risks of injury from walking on railway lines.

since lockdown begun they have seen an increase of people taking their daily exercise along the railway lines as the railway is currently closed.

Churnet Valley Railway managing director Greg Wilson said: “ We are disheartened to find that people continue to trespass on the railway. This is not permitted, is dangerous and can lead to you being seriously injured at best or killed.

As previously mentioned whilst we are shut to passengers we still operate maintenance trains. These do not run to a public timetable.

Someone people not only think it’s OK to trespass but then post it on Facebook for all to see.

A lot of the argument coming from people justifying their actions related to the trackbed between Leek and Endon this railway line has never officially been closed but ‘mothballed’ as a strategic freight route that could be be brought into use when required
